Windows 2003 does not stream FLV videos

Windows Server 2003 does not automatically stream flash video. Previous versions of IIS did not require any modification to stream Flash Video files, but in IIS 6.0, Microsoft changed the way streaming media is handled.

You are now required to add a MIME type to recognize that FLV files are streamed media.
Without
this change, flash videos will not play.

Instructions:

  1. Open IIS (Internet Information Services Manager).
  2. Expand the Local Computer Server.
  3. Right-click the local computer server and select Properties.
  4. Select the MIME Types tab.
  5. Click the "New" button and enter the following:
  6. Associated Extension box: .FLV
  7. MIME Type box: flv-application/octet-stream
  8. Click "OK".
  9. Restart IIS.
  10. Check your website!
